Swimming Concludes Season with Impressive Showing at League Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-It was another successful season to add to the Centenary swimming record books as both teams shined throughout The Summit League Championships this week. The Gents finished second with 539 points, while the Ladies took fourth with 360 points.

The Gents placed second once again without a diving squad, finishing behind Oakland's 998 team points.

On the final day, Centenary put together a second and third place finish in the 100 yard Freestyle by Josh Pena and Devin Ross. The duo each landed their names at the top of the record books with the fastest time. Pena took second place in 45.34 and Ross followed in third in 45.43. Caleb McSorley also garnered Top 8 nods with sixth overall and a time of 46.24.

Ross Olivier garnered eighth place in the 200 yard Backstroke (1:54.78), while Matthew Pittman, the current record holder, placed fifth in the 1650 Free (16:10.77).

Rounding out a successful day for the Gents was the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Ross, Caleb McSorley, Anthony LeBlanc and Pena's second place finish, registering a time of 3:02.95 for second all-time.

The Ladies were led on the final day of competition by Rachel Olson, who has proved all season to be a threat as a newcomer. The freshman posted a record-breaking 2:06.12 time for a third place finish in the 200 yard Butterfly. Teammate Lauren Kloepfer followed in seventh with a time of 2:10.46.

Three Ladies grabbed seventh place nods, including Lauren Lassiter in the 200 yard Backstroke (2:08.90), Hayley Schneider in the 100 yard Free (53.74) and Brittany Wilkens in the 200 yard Breaststroke (2:28.48).

On the men's side, Oakland (998) captured the title, followed by Centenary (539) and then SDSU (504). On the women's side, Oakland (1,060) earned first, followed by SDSU (625.50), USD (536) and Centenary (360).

The Summit League Championships wrap up the 2011 season for the Centenary swimming teams as they say their goodbyes to league competition.
