Gents Golf in Seventh After Day 1

GLENWOOD, Ark.-The Centenary men's golf team opened the 2011 season on the road at Doyle Wallace Classic hosted by Henderson State on Monday. The Gents sit in seventh place with a team score of 309.

Centenary was led through one round by senior Cannon Earp with a two-over 74 as he finished day one in a tie for 16th place. He was followed by senior Ryan Sparks in a tie for 23rd with a 77. Senior Greg Berthelot is tied for 28th with a first-round score of 78, while sophomore Jay Frazier is tied for 40th with an 80.

The Gents' 309 score puts the team 21 shots over par and 19 shots out of tournament leader, Delta State with a one-round score of  290.

Behind Delta State in team standings is Henderson State (292) in second and East Central University (302) and SE Oklahoma State (302) tied for third.

Individually, Sam Lavelle of Henderson State sits in first with a two-under 70.

Centenary will wrap up play on Tuesday.
