Gents Finish Fifth; Earp Earns Top 5 Finish

GLENWOOD, Ark.-The Centenary men's golf team trimmed two strokes off its opening round score and senior Cannon Earp fired a two-under 70 in the final round to help the Gents capture fifth place honors with a 616 on Tuesday at the Doyle Wallace Classic hosted by Henderson State.

Centenary's Earp (74-70) had a strong final showing, cutting four shots off his first round score to finish in a tie for fifth overall with a 36-hole total 144. The senior entered Tuesday's round in a tie for 16th, but fired off a subpar round to garner a Top 10 finish.

Senior Ryan Sparks (77-77) tied for 22nd with a two-round total of 154, while classmate Greg Berthelot (78-77) was one shot shy, finishing in a tie for 25th. Rounding out play for the Gents was sophomore Jay Frazier (80-83) tied for 45th with a 163.

Delta State (290-288, 578) captured the team title, while host-Henderson State (292-296, 588) finished second and East Central University (302-305, 607).

Individually, Henderson State's Sam Lavelle (70-71) shot 3-under for the tournament to take first place.

Centenary will return to action again when it hosts the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate on March 28-29 at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City, La.
