SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's basketball team used a balanced effort to secure its first win of the season in a 75-64 win over Summit League foe, IUPUI on Saturday afternoon in the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (1-23, 1-16 Summit) saw an impressive effort from the senior duo of Ashley Jackson and Anne Farrell, who each finished with 17 points. Jackson recorded her 13th career double-double and sixth of her career with 10 rebounds.

Farrell is now just 14 points away from the 1,000-career point mark and could join Jackson in the elite group of now, just four all-time Ladies.

Behind the duo in scoring was sophomore Ne-Ne Cook with 15 points and freshman Kat Vidovic with 11 off the bench.

Head coach Kristen Davis also put her name in the winning column, securing her first career win as the leader of the Ladies.

It was a battle until the final minutes as Centenary stayed composed and confident throughout the contest. The Ladies did see themselves down by six early on two three-pointers by IUPUI's Gretchen Gaskin.

The Jaguars remained ahead midway through the half by eight (18-10), but Centenary's late first-half surge tied the game at 26-26 at the half. The Ladies scored nine unanswered points in the last three minutes of play as Farrell dropped in four.

Centenary never trailed in the final 20 minutes as it used a 10-2 run to open the half for an 11-point (43-32) lead with 12:19 to play.

The Ladies forced IUPUI into missed shots and used 23 made second-half free throws to take its largest lead of the game at 14 (75-61) in the final minute of play. IUPUI did make a run late, pulling within five (64-59) with 1:37 remaining, but clutch free throws in a 9-of-10 effort by Jackson and Vidovic gave them the advantage in the end.

Centenary fired off its best shooting performance of the year, shooting 55 percent (21-38) from the floor and 5-of-11 (46 percent) from deep. The Ladies were also impressive from behind the charity stripe, knocking down 28-of-35.

Also in the scoring column for Centenary was junior Megan Daniel with nine points on three treys and senior Sarah Weiler with six.

IUPUI finished the afternoon, shooting 42 percent (27-65), led by Kerah Nelson's 28 points and 10 rebounds.

Centenary and IUPUI each totaled 31 rebounds. Behind Jackson's 10 boards was Farrell with nine, one shy of a double-double.

The Ladies honored its three senior athletes: Anne Farrell, Ashley Jackson, and Sarah Weiler following the game. The three combined for 40 of the Ladies' 75 points today. Centenary also took time to honor its three-year student manager, Susan Edwards.

"You know it is a great feeling to get your first win as a coach. I have to credit the girls for always putting in the work day in and day out," said Davis.

"It felt great to get a win on senior night. We finally played as a team and when we were down, we kept fighting together and I think that made the difference in the end."

The win today snapped a 26-game losing streak that dated back to Feb. 15, 2010 in a 67-57 win over IUPUI.

Centenary will play its final game of the 2010-11 season on Monday at 7 pm when Western Illinois makes its way to the Gold Dome for Summit League action.
