Tuesday, March 1, 2011
SHREVEPORT-Centenary senior Anne Farrell surpassed the 1,000 career-point mark with an 18 point, 11 rebound double-double performance, but the Ladies basketball team would fall 68-58 in their final game of the season against Western Illinois in the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (1-24, 1-17 Summit) played their final game in The Summit League as they bid their farewell to the 2010-11 season.

Farrell recorded her 16th career double-double and sixth of the season. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native notched her 1,000th career point with a layup at the 4:42 mark in the second half. She becomes the fifth Lady all-time to accomplish this feat and joins senior teammate Ashley Jackson on the exclusive list.

Behind Farrell's performance, sophomore Ne-Ne Cook added 13 and Jackson chipped in with 11.

Centenary fell down in the first 35 seconds on an early three. After the Ladies recorded their first basket, Western Illinois used a 9-0 run to go up by 12 (18-6) at the 9:58 mark in the first half.

The Ladies battled their way back to pull within four as they were down 28-24 at the half.

It proved to be any team's game early in the second half as each team exchanged baskets. Centenary managed to make it a two-point game (32-30) at the 16:51 mark on a free throw by junior Megan Daniel. With a chance to tie the game, two-of-the three free throws didn't find the bottom of the net.

The Fighting Leathernecks began to challenge the Ladies, forcing them into consecutive turnovers. The visitors were able to stretch their lead to 13 (55-42) with five minutes remaining in the game.

Centenary wasn't able to gain any late-game ground, narrowing it to just seven (57-50) at 3:01. Force to foul in the final minutes, Western Illinois walked away with the away win.

Centenary out shot Western Illinois with a 41 percent (21-51). Behind Farrell, Cook and Jackson in scoring was freshman Kat Vidovic with eight points, while senior Sarah Weiler and Daniel added four.

The Fighting Leathernecks shot 38 percent (26-68) from the field, led by Valencia Kelly's game-high 19 points.

The Ladies were out rebounded, 41 to 35. Farrell pulled down 11, while Jackson grabbed nine.

Western Illinois forced Centenary into 22 turnovers on 11 steals.

The Ladies and first-year head coach Kristen Davis conclude the 2010-11 season.
