SHREVEPORT-Centenary is pleased to welcome Ellen Garrett to the athletics staff as the Ladies and Gents Athletic Trainer. Garrett joined the staff as part of the new agreement with Willis-Knighton, the official provider of sports medicine for Centenary Athletics.

"Centenary was a school that I thought would be the perfect place for me to make the transition, considering I was working at the high school and junior college level prior to this opportunity," said Garrett.

Garrett comes directly from Champion Sports Medicine in Birmingham, Ala. where she served as a certified athletic trainer, providing on-site medical coverage for local area high schools and community colleges.

Hired in July, Garrett has already made tremendous progress revamping the Sports Medicine department that was vacant for the past few months.

"I look forward to getting to know the athletes and working with a different variety of sports. Since I have been at Centenary the staff has been very helpful and extremely welcoming and nice about showing me around," said Garrett.

Since January, Garrett has also played double duty as an emergency medical technician and a member of the search and extraction team for the 187th Medical Group CERF-P of the Alabama Air National Guard.

Prior to that position, Garrett was an emergency medical technician for the 117th Air Refueling Wing of the Alabama Air National Guard.

While pursuing her Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., Garrett joined the athletic training staff as a student assistant. From 2003-06, she was responsible for on-site medical practice coverage for the University's football, baseball and soccer programs.

Garrett is a certified ATC, LAT, and EMT-B trainer, who graduated in 2006 from Samford. A native of Alabama, Garrett now resides in Shreveport.
