SHREVEPORT-The Centenary swimming program is slated to host its annual Maroon & White Intrasquad on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 pm in the Fitness Center, announced Tuesday by head coach Butch Jordan.

"Our annual intrasquad gives us as coaches a look at our incoming class in a racing situation.  Practice can only tell us so much," said Jordan. "This competitive competition allows us to put our training we have been doing to test.  The team takes responsibility for the line ups and that is great especially for our captains who are competitors and coaches at the same time."

The Ladies roster 25 swimmers and are set to compete in 11 meets this year, while the Gents roster 28 swimmers and are slated for 12 events this year. Centenary is now affiliated with the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference, a league made up of several powerhouse NCAA DII programs.

The Maroon & White Intrasquad is open to the public and will feature a variety of events by a number of the Centenary swimming student-athletes.

"The meet lasts for a little over an hour so the spectators will see a lot of races in a short period of time.  This is truly a fun exciting meet for coaches, swimmers and spectators," said Jordan.

"In the past editions of our intrasquad we have had very close team scores with no more than a 4-point spread any year we have done it.  It is fun to see them compete against each other then at the end come back together as the Centenary Swim Team."

Centenary will host its home opener on October 22 against Austin College and Hendrix in a tri-meet at 2 pm in the Fitness Center.
