Five New Faces Join Tennis Program

SHREVEPORT-Centenary head tennis coach Todd Killen is pleased to announce five new additions to the Ladies and Gents squads, announced Thursday afternoon.

The Ladies welcome three new faces to the team in freshmen Olivia West (Houston, Texas), Katie Cornwell (Lafayette, La.) and Lauren Beurlot (Alexandria, La.).

The three will be joined by No. 1 singles player junior Isadora Bickham, seniors Catlin Orschel, Taylor Gilmour, junior Holden Penney, and sophomores Holly Clark, Michelle Gaubert, and Ashley McHugh.

"I'm excited about this year for the women's team. We have brought three experienced girls on the squad that can make an immediate impact," said Killen. "I'm looking forward to showing the ASC our improved team. Go Ladies!"

The Gents welcome two newcomers to this year's squad in freshmen Cameron Buech and Alex Savoie. The two are joined by an experienced returning class in seniors John Reeks, Evan Magill, John Callen, juniors Sam Grace, Michael Reeks and sophomore Garrett Whipple.

"I'm look for our freshmen to bring some high energy to the team. I'm eager to see how much they will push the upperclassmen to the next level," said Killen. "You always want to begin the year with a fast start, and I know their enthusiasm will move us in the right direction. Go Gents!"

Earned three letters in tennis for the Eagles ... Was a District Champion and Regional qualifier in 2010 ... In USTA Texas Tennis rankings, ranked No. 1 in Girls 16's in 2010 ... Was ranked No. 33 in 18's ... Served as a team captain her final two years ... Earned the Eagle Heart Award in 2008 ... Was named MVP in 2010 and 2011

Katie Cornwell
Lafayette, La. (Episcopal School of Acadiana)
Was a doubles tennis letterwinner for the Falcons ... Also played soccer ... Helped team to a State Championship in tennis doubles in 2010 and a Runner Up finish in 2009 ... Was part of a four-time Regional doubles Champion ... Earned the Sydney Hebert Award (Athlete of the Year) ... Off the court, won the Tulane Book Award ... Served as the Honor Court President ... Received the Faculty Award

Lauren Beurlot
Alexandria, La. (Bolton HS)
Earned four letters in tennis for the Bears ... Was a State qualifier three years and a Regional semifinalist three years ... Played doubles at Regionals in 2011 ... Named Academic All-State ... Served as a captain or co-captain three years ... Played in the No. 1 position ... Off the court, graduated Valedictorian ... Earned straight A's

Cameron Buech
Baton Rouge, La. (Catholic HS)
Earned three letters in tennis ... Played as the No. 1 and No. 2 singles player

Alex Savoie
Bozeman, Montana (Bozeman HS)
Earned four letters in tennis for the Hawks ... Played as the No. 1 player his senior year ... Helped team to a 72-27 record over four years ... Was a member of a two-time State Championship team ... Played on a AA Southern Division Championship team three years ... Earned Most Improved Player his freshman year ... Named All-Conference his senior season ... Ranked No. 1 in Montana USTA 18's rankings ... Off the court, was a recipient of the College Prep Diploma ... Was an AP German student

The Centenary tennis schedule will be released soon. The Ladies and Gents are scheduled to compete in one ASC Fall event on the road.
