SHERMAN, Texas-The Centenary men's soccer team received a late goal by senior Ben Barcelona that evened the score at 1-1 against Austin College in exhibition play on Saturday afternoon.

Barcelona's goal came from a feed by senior teammate Marcos Rodriguez.

"This game was a good measure of what we need to improve upon," said head coach David Orr. "Despite battling the intense heat, the Gents were anxious to get on the field and perform."

Centenary had several opportunities to score as it out shot Austin College, 20-9 in 90 minutes. However, with exhibition play, Orr used the contest as an evaluating tool as the Gents open official play on Thursday at home.

"Overall, the game allowed us to evaluate where we are with our play and gauge how the newcomers adjusted to the speed of play," said Orr.

"We are looking forward to Thursday's home opener with Texas College."

Centenary will host Texas College on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7 pm on Mayo Field.
