SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's soccer team made an impressive 2011 debut with a 5-0 shutout win over non-conference opponent, Texas College, on Thursday evening on Mayo Field.

The Ladies (1-0) dominated the entire 90 minutes and produced solid offense as five Centenary players found the scoring column in the victory.

Junior Holden Penney netted the Ladies first goal of the game just a little over one minute into play off a rebound from junior Allie Cortes. Centenary didn't let up as senior Candace Rushing found the back of the off a clear from Texas College to make it a 2-0 game.

Freshman Carly Slovensky, off the bench, provided the Ladies with a solid 3-0 lead after classmate Celia Sobelman dished out the ball for a one-on-one attack.

The scoring continued when sophomore Justine Russell sent a 30 yard shot into the back of the net after a double assist by Rushing and freshman Hannah Pfannenstiel was executed to perfection. Junior Traci Lee also contributed to the solid outing with a goal at the 60-minute mark off a feed from classmate Kelly Fossard.

Freshman goal keeper Brittaney Dunn was solid in goal for the Ladies in her first collegiate contest, playing all 90 minutes and picking up three saves.

Centenary out shot Texas College, 13-6 on the evening.

"It was a good start to a new beginning," said head coach Glenn Evans. "We still need a bit of fitness work, but I am confident it will improve with games played."

The Ladies will take the field this Saturday on the road when they travel to Millsaps for a 2 pm contest in Mississippi.
