SHREVEPORT-Freshman Kellan Klaus made his first collegiate goal a memorable one when it proved to be the game winner in a 1-0 victory for the Centenary men's soccer team over Schreiner in ASC play on Friday afternoon on Mayo Field.

The Gents improved to 2-1 on the year and 1-0 in ASC play.

Senior Marcos Rodriguez' hustle down field at the 83-minute mark opened up an empty goal for Klaus to tap in after a diving keeper left his box in an attempt to save Rodriguez' shot.

It remained a scoreless game until seven minutes to play when Centenary began pressuring near goal. Rodriguez sparked the intensity and Klaus finished the play after the defense by the Gents kept the game even throughout.

"Someone stepped up and took the initiative to finish a play," said head coach David Orr on Rodriguez and Klaus' goal. "They proved that hard work down the field can be contagious."

Centenary out shot Schreiner 15-9 on the afternoon, led by senior Ryan Christianson's four attempts. Rodriguez added three along with classmate RB Asemine, while senior Ben Barcelona contributed with two shot attempts.

Gents' junior goalie Robbie Ramirez made three saves in goal for the shutout win to improve to 2-1 on the year.

"Nothing feels better than being 1-0 in conference play," said Orr.

Centenary will continue ASC play tomorrow when it hosts Texas Lutheran at 4 pm on Mayo Field.
