Gents Golf in Seventh After Opening Round

CLEVELAND, Miss.-The Centenary men's golf team sits in seventh place at the Derrall Foreman Invitational hosted by Delta State after firing an opening round total of 303 on Friday at Cleveland Country Club.

The Gents are just 15 shots over par as a team and sit 15 shots out of the lead.

Centenary freshman Zander Winston showcased an impressive debut round with a -1 under par 71 to pace the Gents in a tie for sixth place overall on Day 1. Following Winston in scoring were freshmen Jamie Gibson and Matt Delaney each with a 77. The duo currently is tied for 27th.

Freshman Hank Strickler was one shot back from Gibson and Delaney with a 78 to sit in a tie for 33rd. Rounding out Centenary's Day 1 scores was junior Jay Frazier, who fired an 81 to sit in a tie for 81st.

Centenary led the way with two eagles on the day coming from Winston and Strickler.

Leading the pack was North Alabama, shooting an even par 288. Blue Mountain College is just two shots back with a 290, while Delta State is at 291 and in third heading into the final round.

The final round will begin just before 8 am on Saturday.
