Volleyball Drops 3-1 Match at ASC UMHB

BELTON, Texas-The Centenary volleyball team returned to play after 10 days off, but would fall in four sets, 3-1, to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday evening in ASC play.

The Ladies (4-2, 1-1 ASC) dropped its fourth contest of the game and first in conference play.

Centenary opened the evening with a 25-19 set one win, but wouldn't be able to continue that play, dropping the next three sets, 16-25, 20-25, 18-25 to the Crusaders, who improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in ASC action.

The Ladies forced UMHB into 23 errors, but were out attacked 65-43 in kills.

Centenary was led offensively by junior middle blocker Shelby Singleton with 16 kills. She was followed by senior Jaclyn Lopez with nine kills and freshman Brooke Bahlinger with eight.

Senior setter Caitlin Neese once again patrolled the offensive attack with 43 assists. Senior Taylor Gilmour contributed with five service aces.

Defensively, Lopez led Centenary with 17 digs, followed by Gilmour with 14 and junior Jesi Wilcox with 11. Centenary registered 16 blocks to UMHB's six. Singleton tallied five, while Neese and Lopez had four and three, respectively.

UMHB had five players in double-digit kills, led by Kaydie Cochran's 18. Morgan Baker tallied 15 digs.

Centenary will return to action in less than 24 hours when it heads back to Shreveport to host UNO on Saturday at 4 pm in the Gold Dome for the Ladies' 2011 home opener.
