Sunday, October 9, 2011
SHREVEPORT-The Centenary men's soccer team used a strong and aggressive defensive effort to finish in a 0-0 double-overtime stalemate with ASC foe, Hardin-Simmons on Saturday evening on Mayo Field.

The Gents improved to 7-2-1 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play. Centenary played its first overtime game of the 2011 season and was held scoreless just its second time as well.

It began as a back-and-forth battle and finished as such when Centenary and Hardin-Simmons each played a competitive 110 minutes of soccer.

Centenary junior goal keeper Robbie Ramirez played solid in goal, collecting five saves and the tie, while holding the Cowboys scoreless, despite nine shots, five landing on goal.

The Gents out shot Hardin-Simmons, 12 to 9, led by senior Ryan Christianson with four shots, three landing on goal. Senior Marcos Rodriguez had two shots on goal, while junior Spencer Nickerson fired off two shots just wide of the goal.

Centenary had late-game opportunities, but Hardin-Simmons was equally impressive on defense throughout the evening, keeping the Gents' four second-overtime shots out of the net.

Centenary will return to action when it travels to Tyler, Texas on Thursday to take on UT-Tyler at 7 pm.
