SHREVEPORT-The definition of a student-athlete goes beyond the basketball court and into the community and the Centenary women's basketball team is a testament to the phrase "student-athlete" after spending Thursday afternoon volunteering at Shreveport's First Baptist Church Fall Carnival.

"Our players know that they are role models in the community and volunteering at the carnival gives them a fun and easy way to get involved with local kids," said head coach Kristen Davis.

With Centenary's Fall Break underway, the Ladies stuck around to pay tribute to the community that supports their efforts as student-athlete. They joined other community organizations on Thursday afternoon to assist in running game booths and carnival inflatable machines.

"The players really enjoy working the First Baptist Church Fall Carnival. There are always a ton of kids and fun games. And like every year, we joined in the games too," said Davis.

Centenary will open official practice on Saturday and open the 2011-12 season with an exhibition game against Southeastern Louisiana on November 11 in Hammond, La.
