Gents Can't Overcome Deficit; Fall 3-1 at UT-Tyler

TYLER, Texas-A late goal with seven seconds left to play wasn't enough for the Centenary men's soccer team as it fell 3-1 to UT-Tyler on Thursday evening in ASC play.

The Gents dropped just their third game of the year, falling to 7-3-1 overall and 6-2-1 in conference action.

It was a solid and scoreless first half as both teams battled for possession, ending in a 0-0 tie. However it was UT-Tyler who found a way to score in the final half, posting three goals within a 40-minute time frame.

The Patriots grabbed an own goal at the 48-minute mark off of a corner kick and later netted two more goals off the foot of Jesus Morteo and Justin Nesmith at the 70 and 83-minute marks.

Centenary continued to battle as freshman Kellan Klaus scored his second collegiate goal with seven seconds left on the clock to put the Gents on the board.

Junior goal keeper Robbie Ramirez played all 90 minutes in goal, collecting four saves, while suffering the loss, falling to 6-2-1.

Centenary was edged in shots, 16 to 13. The Gents were led by senior Aaron Bergman with two shots, both on goal and senior Ben Barcelona with four shots. Centenary and UT-Tyler both tallied an even five corner kicks.

Centenary will travel to Austin, Texas to take on Concordia (TX) at Vandegrift High School at 7:30 pm on Saturday.
