Hi everyone!  Basketball season is finally here and I can't wait for you to get to know our women's basketball team. We added eight new freshmen and a junior college transfer.  We had our first practice on Saturday, October 15th at 9:00 am.  I was pleased with our energy and intensity levels especially since it was early in the morning.  We looked good at moments and went a little crazy at other times, but that is to be expected with the first few practices.  Our 2nd practice on the 15th went pretty well too.  You never know how freshmen will respond to two-a-day practices, but I think we did a good job. To me, that shows how much they've worked on their own in the off-season to prepare for team practice.

Sunday we had our third practice.  Sunday's practice had its ups and downs.  We've got to improve on knocking down easy buckets and not giving up offensive boards.  On the positive side, I could see improvement in our rotations on defense even after just two practices.

Over the next week, we've got a lot to go over.  We'll begin putting in more defensive schemes and offensive sets.  We have a scrimmage in about two weeks, so the players know that they'll need to have a great deal of focus at practice to pick up all the new sets quickly so we can begin perfecting them.  It's going to be a long and challenging week for the team, but I'm confident that with our leadership we'll have a great week and I'll be able to report great things in next week's blog.

I always end each blog with a quote.  The following is the quote that we put on the back of our team shirts.  We know as a team we have to focus on us and developing the type of team we want to be and developing the team that represents Centenary College the best.

"There is a lot of talent in this world... it's what you choose to do with yours that counts."

Also, don't forget to come out and support our men's and women's soccer teams this Friday and Saturday for their last home series of the year.

Take a look at the video as junior Jalena Sanders shares thoughts on the first few practices.
