Hello all.  Women's basketball has had an exciting week.  It was Homecoming week at Centenary so there were a variety of activities for us to attend.  Due to homecoming set-up, we weren't able to use the Fitness Center so some of our practice times were a little crazy.  Wednesday we had a 6 am practice in the Gold Dome.  Our quote on the practice plan that day was "Every day is a get better day.... even if the day starts really early."  I'm not quite sure the players shared my enthusiasm at such an early hour, but we did manage to get a few new things accomplished.

Thursday, Coach Huckabay had practice by himself because I had the opportunity to attend Centenary's Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony.  It was a great event and 3 former Centenary athletes were inducted. Friday, we had practice in the Gold Dome at 2 pm and then we had a team Homecoming event to attend.  At 6 pm we all went to the Gumbo Cook Off/Student-Athlete Recognition dinner held in the Fitness Center.  There was great food and live music.  The men's soccer team started off the dancing and then many other teams joined in. Some of the players on our women's basketball team joined in the dancing.  I'll let you watch the video and be the judge if they're good dancers or not.

Saturday, we were able to have a maroon/white scrimmage as part of more Homecoming activities.  We did a 20 minute running time scrimmage.  It was nice to finally get to play in front of a crowd and get that game like feeling again.  After we were done, the men's team followed and had a great scrimmage full of long range 3's and a variety of fun and creative shots.

Sunday, we had our first taste of competition.  We had a scrimmage against UL-Lafayette in the Gold Dome.  The scrimmage was closed to the public due to NCAA rules.  We finally got to go face to face with an opponent instead of ourselves.  Coach Huckabay and I were very please with how the scrimmage went.  UL-Lafayette is a very athletic team and I thought we handle the tempo well and we were able to play our game and not get frustrated when UL-L went on runs.  Instead of hanging our heads, we fought back and went on runs of our own.  We'll watch film as a team on Wednesday to see breakdowns we had as well as the good things we did right.

The team has an off day today and then tomorrow we'll begin preparing for our upcoming exhibition game this Friday against Southeastern Louisiana.  I look forward to letting you know how we did next Monday.

I hope you have a blessed week and enjoy the quote this week.
