Preview: Ladies Open on Road at I-49 Rival, NSU
Saturday, November 12, 2011
SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's basketball team will officially open its season on Tuesday when it travels to Northwestern State in an I-49 showdown beginning at 7 pm.

LAST TIME OUT
The Ladies are coming off an 83-54 exhibition loss to Southeastern Louisiana last Friday evening. Centenary showcased several positives as three Ladies finished in double figures, led by junior Vashni Sharp-Moore with 11. Senior Megan Daniel and freshman Dio Warr each added 10, while junior Jalena Sanders pulled down nine boards.

A LOOK AT NSU
Northwestern State returns home after suffering a 77-49 loss at Wichita State on Saturday. Reining Louisiana Newcomer of the Year Jordi James led NSU with 16 points, while Trudy Armstead added 12. The Lady Demons shot 31 percent from the floor and committed 20 turnovers in their opening game.

SOLO SENIOR
Centenary rosters just one senior this season in Megan Daniel. The Houston, Texas native started all 25 games a year ago and led the team with 38.2 minutes/game played. She racked up 17 40-minute games, finished fourth-best in scoring with 7.6 ppg and led the team with 48 three-pointers made.

RETURN TO MAKE A STATEMENT
Centenary returners senior Megan Daniel, juniors Vashni Sharp-Moore, Jalena Sanders and sophomore Tandrea Shamblin will pace this team as it enters the 2011-12 season. Daniel is the only returner with significant minutes a year ago, but the size of Sanders and Shamblin will be needed at the forward position. Sharp-Moore is coming off a season-ending knee injury last year and is back to patrol the offense at the guard position.

NEWCOMERS NETTING MINUTES
The Ladies newcomers are going to play a huge role in this year's success as Centenary rosters seven freshmen and one junior college transfer. Freshman Dio Warr stepped up on Friday, playing 25 minutes off the bench, dishing off three assists, pulling down four boards and scoring 10 points. JC transfer Kelly Johnstone was the only starter that wasn't a returner and played 30 minutes, while scoring seven points.

CENTENARY vs NSU HISTORY
Northwestern State holds the upper hand over Centenary with a 20-1 record since they first met back in 1981. The Ladies' only win came in a 62-61 victory on November 27, 2007. This year will mark the 13th year in a row these two teams meet. Last year, Centenary was defeated 98-56 on the road.

FAMILIAR FACES
Centenary and Northwestern State share familiar faces in that Ladies' head coach Kristen Davis was a 2006 graduate of NSU, while earning letters in basketball. Assistant coach Layne Huckabay attended NSU and recently joined Centenary from the Lady Demon staff. New Centenary Director of Athletics comes from Northwestern State after serving as the Associate AD for External Relations. Former Centenary standout and 1,000-point scorer Ashley Jackson, a 2011 graduate, is now pursuing her Masters at NSU and is the graduate assistant for the basketball team.
