Thursday, November 17, 2011
SHREVEPORT-Coming off a tough non-conference loss to Northwestern State on Tuesday, the Centenary women's basketball team will travel to UT-Dallas on Saturday for a 1 pm tip-off in ASC action.

The Ladies are 0-1 on the year under second year head coach Kristen Davis. Centenary fell 109-72 to the Lady Demons of NSU, but showcased several positives, including scoring 72 points against a NCAA Division I Southland Conference school.

Three Ladies scored in double-figures at NSU, led by junior Jalena Sanders' 15 points, one shy of her career-best. Junior Vashni Sharp-Moore added 13 and dished off seven assists, while freshman Dio Warr contributed with 11 in her college debut off the bench. Warr also led Centenary in rebounding with six.

Centenary returners senior Megan Daniel, juniors Vashni Sharp-Moore, Jalena Sanders and sophomore Tandrea Shamblin will pace this team as it enters the 2011-12 season. Daniel is the only returner with significant minutes a year ago, but the size of Sanders and Shamblin will be needed at the forward position. Sharp-Moore is coming off a season-ending knee injury last year and is back to patrol the offense at the guard position.

The Ladies newcomers are going to play a huge role in this year's success as Centenary rosters seven freshmen and one junior college transfer. Freshman Dio Warr stepped up on Tuesday, playing 20 minutes off the bench, while JC transfer Kelly Johnstone was the only starter that wasn't a returner and played 23 minutes. Also seeing significant minutes was freshman Derrany Thomas, used for her speed and defensive capabilities.

UT-Dallas is coming off a 60-41 win over Paul Quinn on Tuesday evening and sits 1-0 on the year. The Comets were led by Lyndsey Smith with 14 points and Brittany Houston with 10 rebounds. UT-Dallas was picked second in the ASC East Preseason polls and return after a 21-6 2010-11 campaign, producing a 16-4 mark in the ASC a year ago.

Centenary will break for Thanksgiving and then return to play at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, November 26 in a 5:30 pm contest, followed by a 5:30 tip off on Monday evening, November 28 at Concordia.
