Preview: Gents Open Season at ASC Favorite, UT-Dallas
Thursday, November 17, 2011
SHREVEPORT-The Centenary men's basketball team will lace up for its first game of the 2011-12 season when it travels to ASC foe and preseason favorite, UT-Dallas on Saturday for a 3 pm contest.

The Gents will use a month's preparation to face off with the Comets on the road, which may be the biggest test for second year head coach Adam Walsh's team. Centenary rosters just three letterwinners from a year ago in seniors Maxx Nakwaasah, Matt Nichenko and sophomore Jonathan Blount.

Centenary welcomes 14 newcomers, including 12 freshmen and two sophomore transfers.

A bright moment in the Gents' young lineup comes from Nakwaasah, who returns after leading Centenary offensively last season. The Dallas, Texas native returns home to begin his quest at the 1,000 point club as well as the 500 rebound club during his four year career.
Nakwaasah last season played in all 30 games, making 27 starts. He led the team in scoring with 12.0 ppg, averaged 30.5 min/game , pulled down 6.0 rebounds/game for second-best on team and finished third-highest on team with 34 assists. Standing at just 6'3" and a forward, he compiled 17 double-digit scoring games and notched four double-doubles, including two in the final three games.

Walsh in his first season at the helm of the program finished 1-29 with a 73-60 win over Western Illinois in the second to last game of the 2010-11 year.

UT-Dallas will host Centenary after earning a convincing 81-54 win over non-conference rival, University of Dallas on Tuesday. The Comets were led by Preseason Player of the Year Chris Barnes and Kyle Schleigh with 18 points apiece. Schleigh led the team on the boards with nine.
UT-Dallas is coming off a 21-7 2010-11 campaign where they finished 16-4 against fellow ASC schools.

Centenary and UT-Dallas men will meet for just the second time in school history. The Gents own a 1-0 all-time record against the Comets, when they last met back in 2002-03. Centenary earned a 98-57 win at home.
