Hi everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed spending some extra time with friends and family.  Today, our women's basketball team is in Austin, TX.  We left Friday morning for Belton, TX to play UMHB on Saturday.

This year's travel is a little different for us.  For long road trips, the men's and women's basketball teams travel together.  We knew this would be fun and well as a little bit of a challenge.  Women's basketball is a very organized team with an itinerary always in hand so we know exactly what we're doing and where we need to be.  The men's team is more of a figure it out as you go type of team.  So blending the two styles has definitely been an adventure.

Friday, we departed in the morning for Belton, TX to attend our practice at UMHB.  We had a pretty good practice and I had hoped that would carry over into our game on Saturday.  Our game tipped off at 5:30 pm on Saturday.  The first half we did a great job both defensively and offensively.  We had set a variety of goals we wanted to accomplish throughout the game in addition to winning the game.  In the first half we were meeting our goals of limiting our turnovers and making good decisions in our fast break transitions.  We also did a great job from the free throw line and crashing the boards.  We had the lead entering into the half.  The second half would prove to be a very different story for us.  Instead of continuing doing the things that had got us in a good position at the half, we basically did the complete opposite. UMHB continued the crash the boards and attack and we didn't defend at all the way we did in the first half.  We started rushing our offense too much.  When we didn't get a stop on defense, we felt like we had to go down the court and score immediately and win the game in one shot.  We needed to slow down and get good shots for us and gradually chip away at UMHB's lead.  In the end, we lost due to our own mistakes and UMHB capitalized on each one of them. After the game, it was the same speech as each game before. Rebound, Rebound, Rebound.

Sunday, we headed to Austin, TX to check into our new hotel and grab some lunch.  After lunch the players had a quick nap and then Coach Huckabay and I had film sessions with the guards and posts to go over Concordia sets and defensive schemes.  We had a late practice at 7:00 pm at Concordia's gym.  We finally started crashing the offensive boards at practice and picking up our movement on the offensive end.  After practice, we headed to Panda Express for dinner while the men's team had practice.  We then went back to the gym to pick-up the men's team.  They went about an hour longer than expected so our players hung out on the bus and created goofy songs.... I guess that's what they called them.  Not my type of music, but they seemed to be enjoying it.  Finally, we were all able to depart back to the hotel and go to sleep.

Today, we have shoot-around at 9:00 am to get some shots in and review more about Concordia.  Tip off is at 5:30 pm.  I'm looking forward to reporting back to you next week about our outcome.

And please don't forget that we're finally going to have home games on December 1st and December 3rd.

Hope you enjoy the quote.
