TLU Drops Gents in Home Opener, 75-57
Friday, December 2, 2011
SHREVEPORT-The Centenary men's basketball team struggled to produce any offensive rhythm in a 75-57 home-opening loss to Texas Lutheran on Thursday evening in the Gold Dome.

The Gents fell to 0-4 on the year, all ASC games.

Freshman JaColby Hardin-Crawford recorded his second double-figure scoring game, leading Centenary with 13 points, tying his career-best last coming at Concordia (TX). Senior Maxx Nakwaasah and freshmen Tyler Wright and Caden Cheramie each added nine in the effort, while senior Matt Nichenko contributed with five.

Centenary shot 43 percent (18-42) from the floor, but committed 28 turnovers.

The Gents held just a four-point lead, the most in the early going at 17-13 with eight minutes to play after a Nakwaasah layup. Texas Lutheran would then go on an 11-2 run to pull ahead by three later in the half. After several free throw opportunities, the Bulldogs took their largest lead of six (32-26) with under two minutes left in the opening half.

Centenary trailed 34-28 at the half.

Texas Lutheran never allowed the Gents to gain any momentum in the final half, taking a 15-point lead after four minutes of play, holding Centenary to one basket.

Off the bench, Nichenko and Wright gave the Gents some spark connecting on the next six points to make it a nine point game.

The Bulldogs however wouldn't allow Centenary to gain anymore ground as they remained consistent from all fields, posting their largest lead of 21 at the 8:45 mark. Centenary did trim it to as low as 11 in the final five minutes, but the early second-half deficit proved too much for this young team.

Centenary will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Schreiner at 3 pm in the Gold Dome.
