SHREVEPORT-Centenary College and first-year head gymnastics coach Jackie Fain are pleased to announce that former New Orleans native Casie Hood has accepted the institution's offer of admission to join the Ladies gymnastics program in 2012-13.

"We are so excited to have Casie as the newest member of the Centenary Gymnastics family," said Fain. "She is a perfect fit for Centenary and I have no doubt she will make a great impact on both our team and on our campus!"

Hood hails from New Orleans, Louisiana, but lived a short time in Memphis, Tenn. after Hurricane Katrina.

She will graduate from Faith Heritage Christian Academy this year. The 5'3" Level 10 gymnast competed for Gymstars Gymnastics under Donna and Gene Alexin for 10 years.

During her time with the club team, Hood was honored as the 2010-11 Most Persevered Gymstar and as the 2011 Most Dedicated Gymstar. In 2011, Hood was named Flip Fest Beam Champion, Gymquarters Individual Beam Champion and Flippin' in Memphis Beam and Bars Champion.

Hood also represented the State level, earning second place on Bars, third on Beam, fifth on Floor and Vault and fifth in the All-Around competition. At the Regionals level, Hood grabbed a third place Bars and Beam finish, while being named 1st Alternate for Easterns.

"I think Casie will make an immediate impact on our team as her strongest event is our weakest; not only that but her work ethic and dedication will be a great example to others on the team," said Fain.

Career-High Scores:
Bars: 9.3
Beam: 9.65
Floor: 9.2

Away from the gym, Hood excels in the classroom as the French Club President and earning the Freshman French Award. She looks to major in biology or chemistry at Centenary in hopes of pursuing a career as a pharmacist.

She is the daughter of mother Corinthia Davis, step father Chris Ewell and father Cortez Hood.

"She is originally from New Orleans and was displaced to Memphis by hurricane Katrina, she is so excited to be coming back to Louisiana, and we are proud to announce Casie's commitment to Centenary Gymnastics," said Fain.
