Preview: Ladies Square Off at ETBU, Saturday

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's basketball team will take a short, 40-mile trip to ASC foe, ETBU on Saturday for a 1 pm tip-off.

The Ladies sit at 2-6 on the year and are looking to bounce back from a tough weekend in Abilene last week.

The Centenary women's basketball team allowed McMurry 30 second-chance points on 51 total rebounds in an 81-67 loss on Saturday afternoon on the road. Centenary had four players reach double-figure scoring, led by junior Vashni Sharp-Moore's 17 points and six assists. Junior Jalena Sanders added 13 points and senior Megan Daniel contributed with 12, which included a 4-for-4 effort at the charity stripe. Also reaching double-digits offensively was freshman Dio Warr with 10 points off the bench. On the boards, sophomore Tandrea Shamblin led Centenary with a career-best 11 rebounds, while Daniel pulled down six.

Megan Daniel continues to pace the Centenary Ladies in scoring with 15.3 ppg, followed by junior Vashni Sharp-Moore with 14.5 ppg. Also averaging double-digits are junior Jalena Sanders with 12.9 ppg and freshman Dio Warr with 10.3 ppg. Sanders holds a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game, followed by Sharp-Moore with 6.4 rpg.

As a team, Centenary is averaging 66.8 ppg, while allowing its opponents 79.0 ppg. The Ladies are pulling down just 34.5 rpg, while their opponents are crashing the boards for 44.9 per game.

ETBU comes into Saturday's contest with a 3-4 record and a 2-4 mark against ASC opponents. The Lady Tigers are coming off a 70-54 loss at Hardin-Simmons last Saturday. ETBU is led by Brandace Latin's 13.7 ppg, while Holly Phelps paces the team with 11.0 rebounds per game.

Centenary and ETBU will meet for the 9th time in the school's history. The Lady Tigers currently own the series at 5-3. The last time the two teams have met on the hardwood dates back to Dec. 10, 1983 where ETBU earned a 78-63 win over Centenary.

The Ladies will play one final game before the Holidays, hosting defending Southland Conference Champion, McNeese State, on Monday, Dec. 19 at 7 pm in the Gold Dome.

A canned food drive benefitting the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana will take place. Fans are encouraged to bring 3 canned foods for free admission into the Gold Dome.
