BEAUMONT, Texas-The Centenary women's basketball team concluded its non-conference portion of the 2011-12 schedule, falling 73-44 to Lamar on the road on Friday evening.

The Ladies fell to 3-8 on the year with the loss.

Centenary was led by junior Jalena Sanders' 13 points and nine rebounds, one board shy of a double-double. Senior Megan Daniel added 11 in the effort, while freshmen Derrany Thomas and Dio Warr each contributed with six points off the bench.

Sanders put Centenary up 4-0 in the early going and held the Lady Cardinals in check. Lamar grabbed a 13-6 lead at the 13:09 mark, but a 10-2 run by Centenary on two Daniel three-pointers gave the Ladies a 16-15 lead as late as the 9:50 mark.

Lamar would respond with 15 unanswered points due to a strong shooting effort from behind the arc to pull ahead by 14 points (30-16) with five minutes left in the opening half. Sanders' layup ended Lamar's solid run, but several late free throws by the home team gave them a 41-20 lead at the half.

A 9-0 run by Lamar opened the second half as the Lady Cardinals went up 50-20. Daniel's three ended the surge and sparked Centenary's mid-half run as the Ladies poured in nine unanswered points to narrow the deficit to 21 (50-29) with 14 minutes left.

Lamar wouldn't back down as they executed a 14-2 run to extend its lead to 64-31 with seven minutes remaining.

Centenary's Sanders scored the next five points for the Ladies, but its wasn't enough as the Lady Cardinals held a solid lead and continued to dominate the paint.

Centenary shot 32 percent (18-57) on the evening from the floor and hit 5-of-7 for 71 percent from the free throw line. Lamar finished the night at 42 percent (27-65) from the field.

The Ladies were forced into 24 turnovers, which led to 30 points by Lamar.

Centenary and Lamar each pulled down 40 rebounds. Behind Sanders' nine was Warr with six and sophomore Tandrea Shamblin with five rebounds.

Centenary will return to home to the Gold Dome this coming week as it prepares to play seven home games in the month of January. The Ladies will begin with Sul Ross State on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 5:30 pm, followed by Howard Payne on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 1 pm.
