Preview: Gents Back in Action at Home

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary men's basketball team returns to action this week and prepares for a hefty home schedule in January when it opens the new year with Sul Ross on Thursday at 7:30 pm, followed by a Saturday contest against Howard Payne at 3 pm in the Gold Dome.

The Gents enter the week with a 1-7 overall record, matching that in ASC play.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Maxx Nakwaasah's 33 points wasn't enough as the Centenary men's basketball team fell 90-60 to ETBU on the road on Saturday afternoon. Nakwaasah scored 33 points on 11 made field goals. 20 of his 33 points came in the first half alone. The Dallas, Texas native notched his third 30+ game this season and was four points shy of tying his career-best of 37 points. He has also notched at least 20 points in 7-of-the-8 contests this year. Also scoring for Centenary was sophomore Jonathan Blount in his season debut with seven points. The Shreveport guard returned after recovering from knee surgery to play in his first game of this season. Freshman JaColby Hardin-Crawford also added seven points.

A LOOK AT OVERALL STATS
Maxx Nakwaasah continues to guide the Gents in scoring and rebounding this season with 26.8 ppg and 7.6 rebounds per game to accompany his team-best 10 steals and 34.0 minutes per game. JaColby Hardin-Crawford adds 9.0 ppg, while Tyler Wright and Jonathan Blount each contribute with 7.0 ppg.

COUNT IT DOWN FOR MAXX
Maxx Nakwaasah has excelled the last three seasons as the Gents' leading scorer and one of the top rebounders on the team as a small forward. The Dallas, Texas native is eyeing the 1,000 point club and 500 rebound club at Centenary in his final season.

BLOUNT IS BACK
Sophomore Jonathan Blount returns to play after missing the first seven games this season recovering from knee surgery. The Shreveport guard played his season debut at ETBU back on Dec. 17 and will play his first home games of the year on Thursday. Blount is one of three returners from a year ago and averaged 6.6 ppg and finished third-best in steals with 21 in his freshman season.

A LOOK AT SUL ROSS STATE
Sul Ross enters Thursday's contest with a 4-7 overall record and a 4-4 clip in ASC play. The Lobos are coming off a 60-54 win against Howard Payne on Saturday. Bralyn Thomas leads the team with 14.8 ppg, while Colton Thompson averages 14.6 ppg and 5.2 rpg.

A LOOK AT HOWARD PAYNE
Howard Payne is 6-5 on the year and is 4-4 in ASC play and will meet ETBU on Thursday prior to the Gents on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 54-60 loss at Sul Ross State. Brandon Irwin leads the team with 21.4 ppg and 5.7 rpg.

HISTORY
Centenary will meet Sul Ross State and Howard Payne for the first time in history of the program this week.
