SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's basketball team never trailed in a dominating 82-61 victory over ASC opponent, Sul Ross State on Thursday evening in the Gold Dome.

With the win, the Ladies pick up their second straight ASC victory and improve to 4-8 under second year head coach Kristen Davis.

Senior Megan Daniel controlled the offensive tempo with a team-best 19 points on 8-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from deep. Junior Kelly Johnstone added a career-high 14 points on 4-of-7 from the three point line, while junior Vashni Sharp-Moore contributed with 13 and led the team with five assists.

Also seeing the scoring column was freshman Derrany Thomas with a career-high nine points, freshmen Dio Warr and Ronny Kendrick with six each and junior Jalena Sanders with five. Freshmen Amber Kovac and Kayla Ruth each knocked down four and Christian Prince chipped in with a basket.

Centenary dominated the shooting effort with a 51 percent (34-67) performance from the floor and made 8-of-18 from deep. The Ladies also created havoc on the boards, earning 43 rebounds to Sul Ross' 35.

Johnstone pulled down a team-best eight boards, while Daniel added seven.

Centenary opened the game with eight unanswered points and never looked back. Sul Ross managed to trim it to four (8-4) with 14:21 left in the first half, but that was the closest they would come as Centenary grabbed a 20-point lead at the half, leading 39-19.

An 11-0 run by Sul Ross in the early going of the final 20 minutes didn't stop Centenary from bouncing back with its own run to maintain a hefty lead. The Ladies continued to dominate in all aspects of the game and eventually took their largest lead of the night with three minutes to play at 28 (76-48).

Sul Ross was led by Krista Ford's 20 points and eight rebounds.

"I am very proud of how the team played tonight," said Davis. "The win was a complete team effort. Having seven home games in the month of January we know this is a big month for us, so we just need to carry the momentum into Saturday's game against Howard Payne."

Centenary will host Howard Payne in the Gold Dome on Saturday at 1 pm.
