Preview: Gents Look to Add to Win Streak at Home

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary men's basketball team is on a seven-game win streak and will look to continue the winning ways this week when it hosts UT-Dallas on Thursday at 7:30 pm and Ozarks (AR) on Saturday at 3 pm in the Gold Dome.

The Gents are currently 8-7 on the season, having won their last seven games. Centenary is also 6-1 in the Gold Dome, winning its last five home games.

Senior Maxx Nakwaasah's two made free throws and sophomore Jairus Browning's steal and free throw in the final 10 seconds capped an 85-81 win for the Centenary men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon at UT-Tyler. Centenary was led in scoring by senior Maxx Nakwaasah, who poured in 27 points on a 16-of-17 shooting effort from the free throw line. The 27 points marks the 13th game this season of 20+ points for the Dallas, Texas scoring leader. Nakwaasah also joined the elite 500-Rebound Club, pulling down a team-best eight boards today to account for 501 total rebounds in his four-year career as a 6'3" power forward. He becomes the 25th player all-time to join this list. He is just five boards away from moving into 22nd place alone. Also posting great numbers on Saturday was sophomore Jonathan Blount with 23 points on 7-of-11 from the field. He was followed in scoring by freshman JaColby Hardin-Crawford with a career-high 19 points off the bench.

Senior Maxx Nakwaasah paces the Gents with 27.1 ppg and 8.7 rebounds per game. He is also averaging 35 minutes per game. Behind him in scoring is sophomore Jonathan Blount with 15.3 ppg, while freshman JaColby Hardin-Crawford adds 8.5 ppg to the mix. Centenary, as a team, is averaging 75.7 ppg, while its opponents' account for 78.0 ppg.

Maxx Nakwaasah has excelled during his four seasons as the Gents' leading scorer and one of the top rebounders on the team as a small forward. The countdown towards 1,000 points and 500 rebounds is over for Nakwaasah reached the points milestone on Jan. 14, 2012 and the 500-Rebound milestone on Jan. 21, 2012.

UT-Dallas is 14-4 overall and is riding a five-game win streak into the Gold Dome on Thursday. The Comets are coming off a 56-44 win at Louisiana College on Saturday. UTD is led by Chris Barnes' 15.3 ppg and Kyle Schleigh's 13.7 ppg and 8.1 rebounds per game.

Centenary and UT-Dallas will meet for the third time in history. The all-time series is tied 1-1 after the Gents fell 66-79 on the road in their season opener.

Ozarks will travel to ETBU on Thursday before playing Centenary on Saturday. The Eagles are 5-12 overall and are coming off a 77-71 win at Mississippi College on Saturday. Ozarks is led by Marcus Bobb's 14.6 ppg and 6.1 rebounds per game.

Centenary and Ozarks will meet for the first time in history on Saturday.
