SHREVEPORT-The Centenary women's basketball team drained 17-of-20 from the free throw line to pull off an exciting 61-58 win over UT-Dallas on Thursday evening in the Gold Dome.

With the win, the Ladies improved to 7-12 on the year under second-year head coach Kristen Davis.

"I'm extremely proud of our players' fight and heart tonight," said Davis. "It was a tight game with a great team in the ASC and we were able to play great and pick up the big win."

Centenary landed four players in double-figures, led by junior Vashni Sharp-Moore's 17 points. Senior Megan Daniel's 16 points followed on a 6-of-6 effort from the charity stripe. Juniors Jalena Sanders and Kelly Johnstone each added 11 points to the mix.

Sanders recorded her sixth career double-double, pulling down a team-best 10 rebounds. Sharp-Moore and freshman Dio Warr each added nine rebounds, while Johnstone pulled down six.

Centenary shot 31 percent (19-62) from the field, including an impressive 85 percent (17-20) from the charity stripe. The Ladies out rebounded the Comets 44 to 35.

The Ladies opened with one of their best starts of the year, going up 19-4 over the first 12 minutes. UT-Dallas responded with eight unanswered points to narrow the deficit to seven (19-12) and then eventually finished the half with a 19-1 run, taking a 23-20 lead at the break.

Sharp-Moore tied the game back up at 30-30 after the first eight minutes in the second half. Back-to-back layups by Daniel gave Centenary the lead. Both teams exchanged lead six more times. Tied at 56-56 with 52 seconds left, Warr busted open a jumper to put Centenary back on top, while Sharp-Moore sank a free throw.

A quick UT-Dallas layup narrowed it to one, but a needed foul by the Comets put Daniel at the line for two made free throws.

UT-Dallas was led by Brittany Houston with 19 points. Centenary forced the comets into 17 turnovers on eight steals, three by Daniel.
