Ladies Fall 69-58 in Tough Battle with Ozarks

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary women’s basketball team wouldn’t take the lead the entire afternoon as the University of Ozarks’ Eagles defeated the Ladies 69 – 58 in a hard fought battle.  Junior Vashni Sharp-Moore led the Ladies with 19 points, followed by senior Megan Daniel with 15 and freshman Dio Warr with ten.

The University of the Ozarks opened up the game on a 6 – 0 run throughout the first three minutes of play.  Senior Megan Daniel answered with the Ladies first four points, providing a spark for the Ladies.

It was not until the 14:43 mark that the Ladies would hit another field goal.  Freshman, Dio Warr made her first points of the afternoon from long range, putting the Ladies within five points (7 – 12).

The two teams began to trade baskets for the next four minutes as the Eagles kept a slight lead.  From the ten minute mark until seven minutes left in the half, neither team could find the basket.  Centenary ended the scoreless streak with two free throws by Sharp-Moore.

Ozarks would return the freebies with a bucket of their own (16 – 21).  The Eagles continued to surge as they went up by 10 points (18 – 28) on two three-pointers by Ozarks’ Chelsea Glasscock.

The Ladies answered with a three pointer by Daniel, a lay-up by Warr, and a jumper by Sharp-Moore to end the half at 25 – 35.

The second half opened up with a lay-up by the Eagles just thirty seconds in.  The Ladies would trade buckets with the Eagles until the 17:09 mark when Centenary began to pull away.  Jumpers by Sharp-Moore and freshman Derrany Thomas pulled the Ladies with six.

Neither team was able to connect on offense from the 10:31 mark to the 7:43 mark.

Centenary would battle back and forth the entire second half, but the Eagles were too much for the Ladies.  The Ladies were out rebounded by eight and fell to the Eagles 58 – 69.

Centenary allowed Ozarks’ center, Sabrina Goddard to pour in 16 points and get 16 rebounds from the paint

Senior Jalena Sanders led the Ladies in rebounds with 11.  Sharp-Moore and Warr pulled down a piece.

The Ladies shot just 27% from the field (21 – 76) and 19% from deep (5 – 26).  Ozarks shot 44% on 28 – 63 shooting and 54% from behind the arc (7 – 13).

The Ladies will have this Thursday off and travel to the University of the Ozarks for a rematch Saturday, February 4th for a 1pm tip off.
