CHICAGO, Ill.-Centenary sophomore gymnast Ciara Maradiaga was announced as the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Specialist of the Week after her second place Beam performance during the Tri-Meet between Centenary, Air Force, and the University of Denver.

The Tyler, TX, native compiled her second straight personal best with a score of 9.825 on her Beam routine to help the Ladies to third place finish behind Air Force and host school Denver.

Maradiaga also competed on Bars and was awarded a score of 8.925, but it was her Beam performance that got her recognition as a Specialist. Her previous career-best on Beam came last weekend with a 9.800 effort.

This is the second weekly award announced by the MIC for Ladies. Junior Meg Crowley was previously honored on the Floor Exercise.

"I am so proud of the hard work and dedication Ciara has put into her academics and gymnastics this year, she is very deserving of this award. Ciara has the look we all think of when we imagine a gymnast; beauty in motion. She has just blossomed on the balance beam this year and has been competing with such confidence; you can just see it on her face when she steps up there to begin her routine. She is becoming a leader on the competitive floor for us and has a great future," said Head Coach Jackie Fain.

Nominations are made by the conference's Sports Information Directors.

The Ladies will return to action on February 3 when they travel to Norman, OK, to compete in a quad meet featuring Minnesota, Nebraska, and, host team, Oklahoma.
