Gents Win in Big Second Half Comeback to Defeat LeTourneau 64 – 57

SHREVEPORT - Gents energetic second half earns them a great victory over LeTourneau University.  Sophomore Jonathan Blount scored all 15 of his points in the second half to give the Gents the boost they needed to get a great home win and improve to 10 – 9 on the season.

The Yellow Jackets of LeTourneau played a strong first half keeping the lead for the majority of the half.  LeTourneau’s largest lead was 13 – 21, but senior Maxx Nakwaasah answered back driving hard to the basket and knocking down a tough lay-up and getting himself to the free throw line for an  extra point opportunity at the 4:03 mark.  Nakwaasah knocked down the extra point making the game 16 – 21.  Nakwaasah was a huge force on Gents offense scoring 12 out of the 16 Gents’ points.

With 36.8 on clock freshman Daniel Allen got a steal and was fouled bringing him to the free throw line.  Allen hit one of two making the score 21 – 30.  The Gents had a great defensive stop at the end of the half to keep them within nine.

The second half the Gents opened up strong with freshman Isaiah Whitaker driving hard to the basket getting him to the free throw line and knocking down one of two.

LeTourneau wouldn’t go away going on an 11 – 2 run; however, that run was put to an end by Blount connecting on a big three point shot at the 13:29 mark making it 33 – 45.

Blount’s shooting would continue to pull the Gents closer as he knocked down another three point shot at the 2:41 mark to get the Gents within two (53 – 55).

LeTourneau kept battling back, but Blount would have another huge three points shot at the 1:12 mark making the score 60 – 57.  The Gents end the game on a 20 to 4 run and Blount contributed 11 out of the 20 points helping the Gents win 64 – 57 in an exciting fashion.

“After a very frustrating first half, our guys responded and bounced back.  Once we had our first two three’s drop, I thought we had a chance if we could put some stops together.  Down the stretch, being able to close with a 20 to 4 run took execution on both ends of the floor” said Head Coach Adam Walsh.

Up next for the Gents is a home match-up against UT-Tyler beginning at 3pm in the Gold Dome on Saturday, February 11th.  Before the game, the gents will honor their two seniors Maxx Nakwaasah and Matt Nichenko.
