SHREVEPORT, LA – The Ladies gymnastics team won their opening event in front of a spirited home crowd, but could not hold off the Pioneers from Texas Woman’s University.  The Ladies posted their second highest score of the season, registering a 191.250.  This score set them in second place behind host school TWU (193.675).

Centenary’s home opener meet was held with support of the local chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha, as the gymnasts, sorority members, and most of the crowd wore pink in support of breast cancer awareness.  This “Flip for the Cure” event raised both money and overall awareness towards the disease.

On the Vault, the Ladies recorded their highest score of the season with a 48.225.  Sophomore Robyn Price (9.750), and Junior Christy Martinez (9.700) led a solid effort as four Ladies recorded scores of 9.600 or higher. Kayla Jones from TWU led all gymnasts with a 9.875.

On the Uneven Bars, Senior Stephanie Wright led the Ladies with a 9.700. Price continued her strong meet with a Bars score of 9.650. TWU, once again, had the winning score with Bethany Larimer earning a score of 9.725.

On the Beam, Ciara Maradiaga won the event, posting a score of 9.825.  Crowley and Sophomore Tawnee Hadd also posted high scores with each scoring a 9.700.  TWU was paced by Spencer Jones who scored a 9.800.

The Floor Exercise again saw the Ladies win the event with Crowley leading everyone with a 9.825.  Senior Lauren Carlton recorded her second straight personal best posting a score of 9.800, and five Ladies scored 9.600 or higher.  TWU was led by Kristin Edwards and Jones who both had a score of 9.800.

The Ladies return to action Saturday, February 25, as they welcome Springfield College to the Gold Dome for their Elementary education and teacher appreciation night.  This dual meet will begin at 6:00 p.m.
