PINEVILLE, La – The Centenary men’s basketball team played a hard fought battle against Louisiana College on Saturday, but were defeated 69-74.

The Gents started the game down by 1 and then went on an impressive 14-0 run against Louisiana College.  The great run was stopped when Louisiana College’s senior Jelani Mitchell was fouled going to the basket and got himself to the free throw line at the 14:57 mark.

Louisiana College continued to battle back chipping away at the Gents lead little by little.  Mitchell would get to the free throw line once again at the 11:54 bringing LC within five of the Gents (12-17).

The first half continued to be a grind for both teams as the Gents ended the half up by five (29-34).

LC would strike first in the second half but Centenary senior Maxx Nakawaasah answered back quickly with a strong lay-up and was fouled for an extra point opportunity at the 16:34 mark.  He knocked down the free throw keeping the Gents up three (33-36).

LC’s Mitchell continued to make a strong impact in the game driving to the basket and dropping down a tough shot to give LC the lead (43-42).

The two teams would continue to exchange great baskets and keep the game close.

At the 2:02 mark Centenary freshman Isaiah Whitaker connected on two free throws to pull the Gents within three of Louisiana College.

Unfortunately after a great game, the Gents couldn’t regain the lead and lost 69-74 to LC.

Top scorers for the Gents were sophomore Jonathan Blount with 24 points and Maxx Nakwaasah with 30 points.

The Gents completed their season 11-11 in ASC action.
