SHREVEPORT – Senior swimmer Devin Ross was a big fish in a small pool when he was swimming at Centenary, but now he’s moving on to bigger and better things.

The former Gent accomplished a feat about which all athletes dream – qualifying for the Olympic trials. Ross finished the 50m freestyle event in 23.49, hitting the exact qualifying time, down the hundredth of a second last weekend.

“This is our first ever,” Centenary head coach Butch Jordan said. “It’s really exciting that he gets to go because he’s wanted this. He’s a senior, so he’s done with his eligibility here and he really wanted to make this cut.”

Ross broke the 24-second plateau at Texas A&M’s Southern Zone Sectionals and will compete again in the trials the second week of June in Omaha, Neb.
