Gents sweep LC for first win of year

SHREVEPORT – Four Gents picked up their first wins Thursday afternoon as Centenary demolished Louisiana College in men’s American Southwest Conference tennis action, 9-0, for its first win of the year.

The Gents jumped to 1-2 as Louisiana College drops to 1-4, including a three-match losing streak.

Evan Magill (1-2) used straight-set shutouts to garner his first win of the year while Michael Reeks and Garrett Whipple each improved to 2-1 with their 6-0, 6-0 wins.

Top-seeded Sam Grace dominated Daniel Bembenick 6-1, 6-1 to notch his first win of the year, improving to 1-2 while John Reeks held off James Clayton’s stingy second-set effort 6-2, 7-5. No. 6 Cameron Bueche (1-0) marked his first win with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Edwin Morales.

Grace/Magill earned this first win in doubles play thanks to a 8-1 triumph over Bembenick/Nathan Boles as the top-seed pair. Michael Reeks/Whipple, playing as the No. 2 seed, jumped to 2-1 in doubles play with an 8-0 shutout against Reyes Villanueva/James Clayton. John Reeks/Bueche (1-0) used an 8-3 win to close the clean sweep for the Gents.

Centenary returns to the court March 17 at LeTourneau at 9 a.m. and Texas Lutheran at 2 p.m. before hosting Linfield College March 22 at the Centenary Tennis Complex at 3:30 p.m.
