Tuesday, March 20, 2012

RUSTON, La. – Centenary will go for a clean sweep of its NCAA Division-I opponents Wednesday night with a rematch at Louisiana Tech at 6 p.m.

The Gents (16-5) have been red hot since losing two straight nearly a month ago, winning 12 of 14 overall, including a 14-8 win over La. Tech at Shehee Stadium March 6. The Bulldogs have struggled since, dropping to 10-10 overall and lost four of their last six since the loss to Centenary.

Nic Parrott (2-0) will get the start on the bump for Centenary, which looks to start a new winning streak after game three’s loss tLouisiana o College Saturday evening. Since the win against La. Tech, Parrott boasts a 1-0 mark with a 3.00 earned run average. He’s scattered 10 hits over six innings in that span, allowing just two earned runs.

Offensively, the Gents are quick to explode and take pressure off the defense. Matt Creamer leads the Gents with a .417 average at the plate in the five games since the win against LTU. Jeff Schaffert (.409) joins Creamer as the only Gent boasting better than .400 at the plate.

Tyler Clakley leads the Gents overall with a .434 mark, followed by Kyle Morton at .425. Clakley tops the charts with 12 doubles while Morton’s 25 RBIs lead the team.

Centenary is 5-1 in the six-game stretch, outscoring its opponents 43-28. That included an 11-8 win over Grambling, moving the Gents to 2-0 against Division-I opponents. A win over La. Tech would finish the sweep before closing out the season with 15 of 16 games against American Southwest Conference foes. The only non-conference game left is the April 24 matchup against in-town rival LSU-Shreveport at 6 p.m. at Shehee Stadium.
