Gents, Eagles set for three-game set
![]() SHREVEPORT – Centenary returns to the baseball diamond this weekend to begin a three-game American Southwest Conference series against the University of the Ozarks at Shehee Stadium starting Friday night at 6 p.m. Centenary and Ozarks finish the set with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The Gents (16-5, 9-2) have had nearly a full week off after Wednesday’s game at Louisiana Tech was rained out. The Eagles (8-13, 1-5) enter the weekend series off a 10-9 win over East Texas Baptist, which snapped a seven-game losing streak. Senior hurler Lance Nugent (4-0) will get the nod in game one. Nugent boats a 3.18 earned average, holding opposing batters to just a .257 average at the plate. He leads the team with 39 2/3 innings pitched and 38 strikeouts. Offensively, Tyler Clakley leads the Gents overall with a .434 mark, followed by Kyle Morton at .425. Clakley tops the charts with 12 doubles while Morton’s 25 RBIs lead the team.
Centenary is 5-1 its last six games, outscoring its opponents 43-28. That included an 11-8 win over Grambling, moving the Gents to 2-0 against Division-I opponents. |
