Gents wallop Wildcats

SHREVEPORT – Centenary used a sweep of all the singles points after dropping two doubles points to down Linfield College Thursday afternoon in men’s tennis action, 7-2.

The Gents improve to 4-2 on the season, extending their winning streak to four after dropping the first two matches of the year. Linfield falls to 2-8.

No. 2 Garrett Whipple upped his team-best record to 5-1 with straight a three-set win over Zach Lyons, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0. Whipple Michael Reeks also won the only Gents doubles point as the second seed, 9-8.

Evan Magill, playing as the third seed, joined Whipple as the only Gents who needed three sets to win. Magill improved to 4-2 after a 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 over Micah Roos.

Sam Grace rolled through Cody Levien as the top seed, 6-1, 6-3 while No. 4 Reeks dominated 6-4, 6-2 to improve his season mark to 5-1, keeping pace with Whipple atop the team charts. No. 5 John Reeks and No. 6 Alex Savoie also won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-1, respectively.

The Gents return to American Southwest Conference action March 27 to battle East Texas Baptist before breaking from conference play again to host UL-Lafayette March 31 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff April 11. Centenary closes the season at home against ASC foe UT-Tyler April 14.
