SHREVEPORT – Lance Nugent stayed perfect on the mound for Centenary Friday night, hurling 6 1/3 innings, and the Gents offensive provided plenty of support in a 13-1 American Southwest Conference baseball contest at Shehee Stadium.

Centenary (17-5, 10-2) and Ozarks (7-14, 1-5) will wrap up the series with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.

Nugent improved to 5-0 after giving up just five hits and one runs. Trey Lavespere, Kamden Haglund and and Trey Guccione closed the final 2 2/3, giving up no hits. Centenary pounded Eagles starter Jeffrey Works for 10 runs on nine hits in just 5 1/3 innings of work. He walked eight Gents batters.

Jemari James gave the Gents the early lead in the first with a two-run single to right field, the first of his two hits, knocking in Tyler Clakley and Kyle Morton.

Dan Lazarou, 2-for-4, singled to start the second-inning rally, followed by a Craig Littleman double down the left field line, which scored Lazarou from first on a perfectly executed hit and run. Littleman advanced to third on a Matt Creamer groundout and scored on a Ryan Gasporra single to give the Gents a 4-0 advantage. Clakley walked to reach base for the second time in as many plate appearances and scored on two fielding Eagle fielding errors, 5-0 after the third inning.

Kyle Morton cranked a one-out double to right center in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 6-0. Jemari James smacked another two-run single to put the Gents up 8-0, knocking in his 16th and 17th runs of the year.
The Eagles fourth fielding error allowed Jeff Schaffert to score on a Marc Martinez ground ball, putting the Gents on top 9-0 before Lazarou singled to load the bases. Matt Creamer just missed a double to right center, but drove in James with a sacrifice fly, followed by a Creamer two-RBI single to give the Gents a 12-0 lead.

Both squads plated one in the seventh to finish the game’s scoring.
