Gents steamroll Tigers on the road; extend streak

MARSHALL, Texas – Centenary extended its win streak to five matches with a dominating performance over East Texas Baptist Tuesday night in American Southwest Conference men’s tennis action, 9-0.

Centenary jumped to 5-2 on the season after its 0-2 start and improved to 4-1 in ASC play, its only loss to the University of the Ozarks, 6-3.

Michael Reeks and Garrett Whipple upped their team-best records to 6-1 on the season as every Gent won in straight sets. No. 4 Reeks downed Jeff Hall 6-1, 6-0 while No. 3 Whipple defeated Caleb Stokes 6-0, 6-1.

Top-seeded Sam Grace dominated Anthony Williamson 6-2, 6-0 to improve his season mark to 4-3. While Evan Magill rolled through Alvaro Copa, 6-1, 6-0, in the second spot. Magill moved to 5-2 on the year and 4-1 in ASC play.

No. 5 John Reeks used a 6-0, 6-2 performance against Efrain Infante to improve to 4-3 on the year while No. 6 seed Alex Savoie didn’t lose a game, downing Nick Larzabal 6-0, 6-0. Savoie is closing in on the .500 mark at 2-3.

In doubles play, the Gents were just as dominate, losing only three games in three matches. Grace/Magill won 8-1, followed by Michael Reeks/Whipple’s 8-0 score. John Reeks/Alex Savoie won 8-2 in the third spot.

The Gents host UL-Lafayette March 31 at the Centenary Tennis Complex at 2 p.m. to open a three-game home stand to close the season.
