CLINTON, Miss. – Centenary will look to continue its hot streak Friday at 6 p.m. at Mississippi College to open a three-game American Southwest Conference baseball series.

The Gents are 18-6 overall and 11-3 in ASC play while Mississippi College has won three straight to improve to 13-13 and 5-4 in conference.

After taking two of three from the University of the Ozarks last weekend, Centenary has won eight of its last 10 and will have senior pitcher Lance Nugent on the mound Friday night.

Nugent is 5-0 on the year with a 2.93 earned run average, but is more impressive in league play. Four of his five wins have come in ASC action, lowering his ERA to 2.15. He’s scattered just 32 hits in 37 2/3 innings pitched while fanning 36 batters in his five conference appearances.

Cole Thompson (3-1) is slated to get the nod on the mound for game two. Thompson has been nearly as impressive as Nugent. His only loss came three weeks ago and was stellar in the outing. He struck out eight batters and allowed just one earned run in 6 1/3 innings of work. Thompson boasts a team-best 1.97 ERA in league play and 2.72 overall mark. Game three’s starter is undecided.

The pitching staff receives ample help from the offense, led by Kyle Morton’s .432 average with Tyler Clakley (.424) right behind. The Gents are hitting .327 as a team and are outscoring their opponents 179-123.

After wrapping up play at Mississippi College, the Gents will host UT-Tyler for a three-game set starting April 6 at 6 p.m.
