Friday, March 30, 2012

SHREVEPORT – Centenary will face arguably its toughest test of the season Saturday when Louisiana-Lafayette visits the Centenary Tennis Complex at 2 p.m. in men’s tennis action to begin a three-match home stand.

The Gents are 5-2 overall thanks to a five-match win streak while the Rajin’ Cajuns boast an 11-6 mark after a 5-2 loss to St. John’s. Before the loss, ULL had won four straight and six of seven.

Garrett Whipple and Michael Reeks lead Centenary into Saturday’s match, each holding six-match win streaks and team-best 6-1 records. The duo also holds a 6-1 mark as a doubles team, playing as the No. 2 seed.

Four other Gents have win streaks at stake. Evan Magill is 5-2 on the year and hasn’t lost since March 10 against the University of the Ozarks. Top-seeded Sam Grace sits at 4-3 on the year and is on a three-match win streak. Alex Savoie and John Reeks look to extend their win streaks to three games during the weekend contest.

The Gents have rebounded nicely since starting the year 0-2, boasting a .667 win percentage (28-14) in singles play.

After Saturday’s match, the Gents wrap up the season with two more home matches. Centenary hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff April 11 and UT-Tyler April 14.
