GYM Talk
Wednesday, April 4, 2012

Hello Centenary gymnastics fans!

This is Coach Jackie coming to you this week with our Gym Talk!   I thought I would give the team a break from writing this week as they prepare for our trip to our National Championships next week!  They are busy this week working on catching up with class work from last week, and trying to work ahead in the classes they will be missing next week.

We have had an exciting week this week as our Ladies have been wrapping up some postseason recognition and awards!  After our fourth-place finish at our conference championships, we had four Ladies named to the second-team all-conference: Stephanie Wright, Meg Crowley, Jessica Lieblich and Robyn Price.  Jessica Lieblich and Ciara Maradiaga were also named as alternates for the NCAA Regional Championships. Not only have we been excelling in the gym this year but our Ladies have been representing in the classroom as well. We had six Ladies named to the academic all-conference team: Melody Smith, Lauren Carlton, Meg Crowley, Jessica Lieblich, Christy Martinez, and Ciara Maradiaga. I would like to congratulate these young women on their diligence and excellence in both the gym and in class!

We took advantage of having this last weekend off of competition in our preparation for nationals.  We spent last week working very hard on our strength and endurance, and really focusing on perfecting the little things in our routines.  We will have a long week of competition next week and we want to go into the meet prepared physically to compete three days in a row.  We are now tapering off and spending more time on putting each gymnast and each event squad into pressure situations, thus giving them the confidence to compete at their best next Thursday!

Centenary begins its Easter break Wednesday, which works out great for us as we prepare for our last competition this year!  Not having classes the rest of the week gives us more time to have everyone in the gym together so we can focus on team assignments!  We also have a few fun team things planned for the weekend ahead to keep our attention on our team goals for the next 11 days!

We leave for Bridgeport, Conn., on Tuesday morning to finish out our 2011-12 season.  The Ladies have worked extremely hard this year, and have come so far!  We have had a true team effort this year and your Ladies have continued to improve all season long. Everyone has contributed to our team, which is what has made us so strong, whether it has been on the competition floor or behind the scenes, we have a team of incredible young women.

We will be doing a daily “Gym Talk” during our trip next week, so be sure to stay tuned as we tell you about all of our adventures in the week ahead!  Thank you all for your support this year, the Ladies appreciate all of you!

Go Ladies Go!
