SHREVEPORT – Centenary prepares to end the regular season with a five-game home stand starting Friday night at 6 p.m. against LeTourneau at Shehee Stadium in American Southwest Conference baseball play.

Four seniors (Dan Lazarou, Kyle Morton, Lance Nugent and Jeff Schaffert) will be recognized for their contributions to the Gents baseball program after the series concludes Saturday evening.

The Gents (22-11, 15-8) are off two straight ASC series losses after winning their first six of the year. Centenary was in good shape against UT-Dallas last weekend after taking game one, but dropped both legs of the Saturday doubleheader. LeTourneau enters the three-game set 13-21 overall and 7-10 in conference play after being swept for UT-Tyler at home last weekend.

Senior pitcher Lance Nugent (7-1) will get his last start in a Centenary uniform, boasting a team-best 7-1 record with two complete games, second only to Cole Thompson’s (4-4) three. Thompson will start in game two Saturday while Chase Clarke (2-0) is scheduled to get the nod in the series finale.

Nugent and Thompson lead Centenary with 68 and 56 innings pitched, respectively, accounting for half of the team’s wins.

Kyle Morton is flirting with a sacred number in baseball, hitting .396 through 33 games. Tyler Clakley isn’t far behind at .385. Morton also tops the charts with eight home runs and 33 RBIs, followed by Jeff Schaffert’s 30 runs knocked in. Ryan Gasporra (.355) leads Centenary with 83 total bases and edges Morton’s .685 slugging percentage with a .686 mark.

After wrapping up play against LeTourneau, Centenary will host a Tuesday doubleheader against in-city rival LSU-S at 4 p.m.
