SHREVEPORT – Basketball season isn’t here quite yet, but Centenary’s women’s basketball team is already reaching into the community, participating in Pink Friday three days ago.

Head coach Kristen Davis, who enters her third year at the helm, and her Ladies gathered at the corner of Bert Kouns and Youree Drive Friday afternoon to help raise awareness for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the largest and best-funded breast cancer organization in the United States.

“Participating in Pink Friday was a great way for our women’s basketball team to kick off the school year,” Davis said. “Susan G. Komen is a great organization to support and we’re looking forward to The Race for the Cure on September 15.”

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer ever created. Last year, more than 1.6 million people participated and more than 100,000 volunteered.

The race made its debut in 1983 in Dallas, Texas with 800 runners.
