SEGUIN, Texas – Centenary’s tennis teams will see its first action of the fall Friday and Saturday, taking part in the Doc Skogman Invitational.

The Gents will travel six and Ladies four, each playing in singles and doubles action. The matchups haven’t been set for the tournament.

Three players will make their debuts for the Gents, spearheaded by No. 1 singles player Anthony McMaster, a sophomore transfer from Fullerton College.

“He’s a strong player,” head coach Todd Killen said. “We’re looking at him to be a leader on the team. I’m really looking forward to seeing him in action at his first collegiate tournament.”

Thomas Paddock and Jordan Sanghali also represent Centenary for the first time, but will not play together in doubles action. Paddock will be paired with junior Garrett Whipple. Sanghali will play with sophomore Cameron Bueche.

“It’s important for Thomas and Jordan to get court time and get used to the college level,” Killen said. “We need to see where we size up. I want to see them competing and working hard.

“Michael and Garrett have been here before. They know the ropes. I expect them to play a strong tournament and show the guys how to be good teammates.”

The women’s four feature three returners (Holly Clark, Katie Cornwell, Lauren Beurlot) one newcomer (Madelyn Mull). Clark, a junior, is the veteran of the four. Cornwell and Beurlot are sophomores while Mull is in her first year.

“We have a fairly young team,” Killen said. “With a year under their belts, I’m looking forward to seeing Katie and Lauren being more experienced. I know they’ve worked hard over the summer, so I’m excited to see the results of that.

“Madelyn is a strong player,” he continued. “It’ll be good to compete against this competition and see how she stands up. I’m sure she’ll do well. She has a strong game.”

In doubles play, Clark and Mull will team up and Cornwell and Beurlot join forces.
