MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Centenary wrapped up the weekend with a three-set sweep of Bridgewater State University after dropping its first three matches and senior libero Jesi Wilcox moved into third place on the single-season digs list with 462.

The sweep over BSU (25-20, 25-14, 25-16) upped the Ladies record to 2-29, snapping a 10-match losing streak. The win gives Centenary a dose of momentum heading into the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament next weekend.

“We finally let our mistakes not dictate how we play,” head coach Jon Stenman said. “We went out, had a good time, we started talking about keeping the train on the track. They just went out and enjoyed themselves.”

The Ladies had lost their first three of the weekend, all 3-0, to Martin Methodist (25-14, 25-13, 25-23), Rhodes College (25-7, 25-17, 25-17) and Birmingham Southern (25-12, 25-13, 25-9) before recording their best hitting set of the year in the third set against Bridgewater.

In the final set of the win, Centenary smashed 13 kills with only three errors in 37 attempts. The Ladies hit .230 in the frame to secure their second win of the year.

“It feels good to get a win after a disappointing start to the weekend,” Stenman said. “It’s something to look forward to. When they put it all together, they’re fun to watch.”

Wilcox grabbed 86 digs over the weekend, including 55 (27--28) in the final two matches, to pass Casey Varnado’s 404 for third all-time on the Ladies single-season digs list. She needs 84 to tie and 85 to pass Kelley Heckman for second all-time. Lauren Fielding sits atop the list with 627.
