Gym Talk with Noel Stubbs
Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Heyyy! My name is Noel but you can just call me NoWezzy! I am a sophomore this year on the Centenary gymnastics team of 2012-2013. I am so excited to write Gym Talk because this has been a wonderful week for the Ladies.

Our team has been very focused on getting new routines put together and perfecting old ones! We only have 83 days left until our first competition of the season, so we are working very hard in the gym! Since we have been busting our butts in the gym we got to relax on Saturday with the team and Centenary’s Chaplin, Mrs. Betsy Eaves.  We were invited to her lake house for a day of relaxation and personal development. In her backyard there was this giant swing starting on a platform about 20 feet off the ground.  You had to hold onto the rope and then just jump out away from the platform before you could sit on the swing. Some of us were terrified to make the jump but with our teammates support we all managed to face our fears and make the jump.

We also played a game called “The Comfy Chair.” In this game you ask people a comfy chair question which is an easy one, a rocking chair question which is moderate, or a hard chair question. This was a great exercise for us because many of the questions made us really think about things we value or are important to us, and other things that may get in the way of us achieving our goals now and in the future. After having lunch and dessert we had to sadly leave the lake house.

After having an awesome Saturday we had to turn it around for Sunday so we could have a remarkable practice! And we did! Today we had so much amazing gymnastics going on in the gym. We were full of energy and enthusiasm and the gym was rockin’! We were surprised with an intrasquad meet on beam at the beginning of practice! The top eight looked great on the beam, and we had some surprising routines! Props go out to freshman Megan for handling the pressure and hitting her first beam routine as a Centenary Lady! As we are working on mental choreography, we will get stronger on that event and be ready in 83 days!

After really hitting some vault drills hard for two weeks, we were ready to start twisting vaults today! Everyone showed great improvement with their twisting vaults, and we even had some new twister, including myself doing fulls for the first time!  More and more combinations are coming together on bars and we are getting a lot stronger. We also got two more new floor routines done today from freshman Stephanie and sophomore Sylvia and they look amazing!

We are working very hard this year to meet all of the goals we have set! Keep in touch for next week’s Gym Talk with co-captain Robyn!
